 Vietnam's Seismic Acitivy

On the case of earthquakes and where they are located the country of Vietnam shown on a seismic map provided by Think hazard shows Vietnam to be a medium hazard country. With the country being a medium hazardous place it means that there is a 10% chance of destructive earthquakes to hit the country in the next 50 years. The percentage is not high since as said in the previous post Vietnam's closest plate is the Eurasian plate which isn't that close to the country which is probably why the country doesn't face such intense Earthquakes. In the light orange spots the country faces low hazard quaked while the darker orange spots face medium hazard quakes. For the majority Vietnam faces around 12 earthquakes yearly with them having a magnitude of 4 with a few above that magnitude. Also in the past 10 years the strongest one Vietnam had is one with the magnitude of 6.2.

What the country does in the case of such disasters like quakes to prepare themselves is that for instance both the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as the Ministry of Education launched a disaster prevention program that would last for 5 years from 2018-2023. The teaching materials and study plans are to be made suitable for each region of the country. the multi-hazard preparedness will be a regular curriculum as well as an after school activity in schools. The country also goes over a seismic hazard assessment in which they use GIS tools. these tools make maps that show information such as the amount of damage on buildings and the amount of casualties in an area including the severity. Such tools also take past quakes as a simulation for predicting what may happen in a future quake. Vietnam also receives aid from other countries such as the US agency called USAID in which they partner with the Vietnamese Red Cross and giving support to VNRC provincial as well as community branches in order to strengthen their preparedness for emergencies and their response to action to such disasters like quakes.
